January is behind us. February is ahead of us. And a whole year of opportunity is lying in wait.
If January flew by you like it did me, there’s no time like the present to get back on track! This is a great time to show some appreciation to your team members and get on track for a productive year.
Little things go a long way. What do I mean by that? You don’t have to have an elaborate All Employee Meeting to communicate what’s happening at your company. You don’t have to invite your entire team to a free, catered lunch to get people together and establish goals for the year.
Simple is sometimes better. Here are some examples:
- If you’re in finance, I know that January was a rough month for your team. Month-end close; year-end close; and the prep for taxes and a new quarter. Do you think anyone on your team might appreciate a gesture like, “Hey, everyone, let’s have a rolling start time Thursday. Take your time getting into the office. Let’s start by 10am.”
- If you’re in operations, how many people in your team would appreciate free coffee day; or free vending machine day; or an extra 10 minutes added onto a lunch break?
- For smaller teams, maybe you could give people a $5 gift card to Starbucks or better yet go as a team to get a specialty coffee or bakery item.
Little steps that don’t cost you or the company significant dollars but show your appreciation – all of this goes a long way to giving employees rewards and recognition for a job well done. (#4 in the 4 Steps to Employee Appreciation!)
Taking small steps like this in February – and maybe one time every month this year – will have a big impact on your team. Try it and tell me how it goes for you! Post your comments below or email me your success stories!
